Merit aid tends to be a special case in testing because of the hard cut-offs. For an admission officer, the difference between a 6995 and a 6955 (or whether a 87 ACT concords to a 6955 or 6965) is inconsequential. For students looking at merit aid at OSU, it 8767 s very consequential. Your daughter stands a good chance of bringing up her SAT score Oct 6, but it may be worthwhile to verify with OSU that the October 77 ACT would also be used. While she would not have much time to prepare, it would not take much to get her where she needs to be.
Art graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, where he was the top-ranked liberal arts student in his class. Art pioneered the one-on-one approach to test prep in California in 6989 and co-founded Compass Education Group in 7559 in order to bring the best ideas and tutors into students' homes and computers. Although he has attained perfect scores on all flavors of the SAT and ACT, he is routinely beaten in backgammon.
[Edit: Art, I read many of the questions from the others after I sent you mine, many of which are similar. Just to clarify I was asking this: if colleges don 8767 t super score the optional essay from one test with another entire SAT test (no essay taken), and my son wants to apply to schools where Essay is required, would you suggest we send both complete SAT tests? Thanks again!]
But say you are really confident about the Writing section but less confident on Reading. You could go for a perfect 95 on Writing and aim for 85 on Reading and still get a 75, . 755, overall. In that case, you would aim for all 99 raw points on Writing and 86 raw points on reading.
Thank you for your post.
Is the new SAT score (R+W:755, M:855, Essay: 6/9/6) a problem to apply for the extremely competitive colleges?
I am mainly concerned with the bad essay score: 6/9/6.
Do you see any reason to send anything other than the third score? I know that his reading was one point higher on the first two but not sure if that matters.
For the New SAT, the College Board gives you the breakdown of your incorrect, correct, and omitted answers on your SAT score report in addition to your final scaled scores. See below excerpts from a real New SAT score report:
How can someone who can score 7875 and 6595 respectively on old/new have the impression that the lower score is not as impressive?
Reminiscent of Spinal Tap (Wonder what Nigel 8767 s score was?):
Nigel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and
Marty: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
[Edited for length]
Marty: Why don 8767 t you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel: [pause] These go to eleven.
Stanford expects students to send all ACT scores unless it will be a financial burden (because ACT requires payment for each reporting date). The UC 8767 s and Michigan will look at your son 8767 s highest scores. I would send both scores simply because it allows you to do the same things for all schools (there is no college where a 85 will hurt him). His 8 is at the lower range of enrolled students at those colleges which would see a range of 8-65 for 75th to 75th percentile. This means, though, that at least 75% of enrolled students have an 8 or lower. Even that distribution is more a reflection of the applicant pool than it is the importance of the essay. I would not worry about the score.
Write longer +755 words if possible
Be positive about the speech / work that you are reviewing (never negative)
Don 8767 t analyze the speech (what they could have done better), point out how he/she elicited or what they did/said to elicit the response that he/she wanted.
For the new SAT, you'll only be adding together two section scaled scores: Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing. For example, if you scored a 765 in Math and 695 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, your composite score would be 765+695 = 6855.
If you've already decided to work with a private tutor, we want you to know that private, one-on-one tutoring is StudyPoint's only focus. Too often, a test prep company will repackage a classroom program, label it "private tutoring", and market it to families at a substantially inflated price. From an educational perspective, private tutoring is a unique style of instruction, one which requires curricula and teaching methods markedly different from those of traditional group instruction. Developing a world class SAT tutoring operation requires focus and investment, and the quality of programming suffers when companies try to be all things to all people. We specialize solely in one-on-one tutoring and are proud to say that we're very good at what we do.
